Q: What was announced?
We are very excited to announce that PowerSchool has completed the acquisition of Kickboard, a leading provider of K-12 education behavior management solutions that help educators effectively manage social-emotional learning (SEL) and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) to help improve student well-being, school culture, and achieve more equitable outcomes.

Q: Who is Kickboard?
Kickboard supports schools’ and districts’ initiatives around SEL, positive behavior intervention and support (PBIS), and MTSS. They also provide professional development opportunities for educators that support increased positivity throughout an organization’s culture and climate.

Q: Why did PowerSchool acquire Kickboard?
This acquisition represents PowerSchool’s continued commitment to helping ensure students can get the support they need for future success as lifelong learners. Adding Kickboard to PowerSchool will provide a more comprehensive approach to understanding and supporting the whole child.

Q: How will this acquisition help K-12 schools and districts?
Addressing students’ social emotional well-being and mental health is critical, not just for schools and districts, but for our families and communities. Adding one of K-12’s leading behavior management solutions, including the only evidence-based ESSA Level II platform, to PowerSchool will provide a more comprehensive approach to understanding and supporting the whole child.

The need for SEL-focused support has been on the rise even prior to the pandemic with 70% of principals identifying it as a priority in 2019 – up from 43% just two years earlier. And, as teachers strive to address unfinished learning from the past 18 months, while simultaneously helping students readjust to live instruction, the need for solutions that support students’ social-emotional needs is greater than ever before, as highlighted in a recent Department of Education report.

Adding Kickboard to PowerSchool’s award-winning Unified Classroom® will enable educators to securely input and analyze student behaviors, interactions, and outcomes by connecting one of K-12’s leading behavior management solutions with industry-leading student information, learning management, professional learning, and data analytics systems.

Q: What does this mean for PowerSchool’s and Kickboard’s products and customers?
When combined with PowerSchool solutions, educators will benefit from further integration that allows them to adopt a more comprehensive approach to assessing and analyzing student behavior in the moment. Specifically, educators that use both PowerSchool and Kickboard can benefit in the following ways:

  • Centralize all behavior management and reporting: Educators can keep track of all student-focused initiatives including SEL, PBIS, MTSS, overall student performance, and professional development programs in one place.
  • Full and clear visibility to the whole child: With a comprehensive view of social and emotional well-being and mental health data, combined with student performance, academic outcomes, demographic data, and attendance, educators will be able to better support their students’ overall achievement, and preparation for life after high school.
  • Save teachers’ time with integration between behavior management and their PowerSchool solutions: Single-sign-on (SSO) from PowerSchool Schoology Learning makes it easier for educators to influence and track their interactions with students. Data integration with PowerSchool SIS and PowerSchool Performance Matters ensures data quality and removes the need for manual data imports and exports.

Q: How does Kickboard currently integrate with PowerSchool’s solutions?
Kickboard currently integrates with PowerSchool’s suite of solutions in multiple ways:

  • SSO for staff from Unified Classroom® Schoology Learning
  • Automatically connect behavior incidents from Kickboard to behavior compliance reporting in PowerSchool SIS (incident management and log entries)
  • Sync behavior ratios from Kickboard to Baseball Card reporting in Unified Classroom® Performance Matters

Q: What is the combined PowerSchool and Kickboard product roadmap?
While additional details will be made available in 2022, please know that customers can expect further integration between Kickboard and PowerSchool. For example, educators will be able to view student data from Kickboard alongside additional student data in Unified Insights, where educators have access to predictive analytics and AI/ML technology to better meet the needs of students.
